Korean Drama Review: Extraordinary You

The main problem with most Korean dramas with a fresh concept is that they don't execute it properly several dramas like Abyss, W-two worlds, Memories of Alahambra are good examples of dramas with good concepts and bad execution those dramas just won't explain, how it all happened and leaves us more and more confused.

Fortunately, unlike Abyss 'extraordinary you' is not a bad drama. I hated Abyss so much that I dropped it in the middle because I can't accept the wrong messages that drama was giving.

Extraordinary you, on the other hand, is a well-written drama and used the source material very well in the first half and not only writing the acting in this drama is good too. I really loved the acting of Kim Hye Yoon in this drama her previous role in sky castle is good but certainly not as memorable as this one. She is one of the main reasons why I watched this drama to the end even though the second half is not good as the first half I still hung in there for Kim Hye Yoon.

The rest of the cast did a fantastic job especially Lee Jae Wook and Rowoon you must see their bromance in behind the scenes clips those videos are on youtube if you want to see them.

This drama has a total of 16 episodes and I felt that they should have shot more than sixteen-episode. I felt like they ended the drama too soon and there are several things left unexplained. It is a big turn off for me watching W and this drama.

This drama doesn't have a proper world-building and never explains how everything works in that world even after completing that drama we don't understand how that world even came to the existence and what is the criteria for the characters to become self-aware and why dead self aware character can't remember anything there are several things that are left unanswered.

The first half was good and really laughed at how they made fun of cliches but the second half of the drama contradicted what the first half is all about it's about trolling the cliches but instead they turned it into a romantic melodrama with a pointless love triangle nobody asked for and ignored the main theme of the story.

The character of Eun Dan Oh was amazing and every drama fan could relate to her. I love her spunkiness and her cuteness but on second half this loveable character disappears and turns into a lovesick girl. The girl forgot her goals and her world literally revolved around haru she became the exact opposite of herself in the first half. Nevertheless, I never would have loved this character if someone else other than Kim Hye Yoon played it I can't think of anyone who could play this role as good as her.

The performance that fascinated me was lee Jae Wook his character is very complex and multi-layered and kudos to the actor for playing such a complex character so perfectly even though I disliked his character the actors acting made me sad especially during his redemption arc that came out late but definitely moved the audience.

My favourite character in this drama is Lee Do Hwa and kudos to the actor Jung Gun Joo who sadly is not getting as much as recognition as other male leads. He is such a pure and honest guy who everyone should definitely have as a friend. he ships you with your crush and helps you in difficult times and also says good lines like 'Cliche Dialogues are Best' We cringe at them but we secretly love them just like Lee Do Hwa. How can anyone dislike this guy?

Rowoon as Haru did a pretty good and it's not an easy role to play since his character was blank and canvas but his interactions with dan ho slowly changed him and Rowoon portrayed that character so well. I was really surprised by his acting and really hope he gets more roles in future.

Lee Na Eun definitely surprised me even though her character is unlikeable at first in second half her performance as a badass self-aware main character of a webtoon is very likeable but her decisions are questionable even though she likes Lee Do Hwa she chose Nam Joo Over him which really confused me since she had better chemistry with him than Nam Joo.

The Ost is one of the strong points of this drama. I downloaded the ost and listening to it right now. No wonder several people made FMV's.

Extraordinary You is a Unique drama that comes out rarely but It does have it's own share of mistakes.

My Rating: 8.3/10

Thanks you for reading!
