Finally guys the most anticipated drama of the year is here. I just watched king: The Eternal monarch and let me tell you it is visually stunning but the story is not what I was expecting it has an interesting concept time travelling + Parallel worlds but the cliches are overused and I felt like the writer recycled her all previous drama cliches.
The episode begins with introducing bamboo flute that can cure diseases and makes its owner become an immortal who can cause rains and kill enemies. The king sinmun of Silla kingdom first received the flute from the dragon king on the east sea. Now Prince Yi Rim, uncle of Yi Gon (Lee min Ho) narrates the entire story to the cops Jung Tae Eul & Kang Shin Jae. He tells them he didn't age since 1990. He further tells that his idiotic brother the king doesn't use that power. Then Jung Tae Eul (Kim Go Eun) asks him that did he killed his brother to get hold of it.
That flute's name is Manpasikjeok and to get hold of it Prince Yi Rim plans a coup and kills the king and gravely injures child Yi Gon but before he gets collapsed Yi Gon cuts the flute into half and a mysterious person saves Yi Gon by killing the Yi Rim's soldiers. Yi Rim and his loyal servant escape. Before the saviour leaves child Yi Gon gets hold of the Id card of his saviour. That saviour is none other than Kang Shin Jae (Kim Go Eun).
The following day the prince Yi Rim is dethroned, and Yi Gon becomes king. The second in line to him is his father's elder brother Prince Buyoung, also known as professor Lee Jong-in. We also get introduced to the Noh Ok Name, the head court lady. Meanwhile, Prince Yi Rim teleports to our world through a mysterious gate. He meets his brother lookalike and kills him after that he goes to his house and kills his lookalike who is disabled after that he kills Yi Gon's lookalike.
Yi Gon becomes the king, and we get introduced to his childhood friend and future bodyguard, Jo Young He is the son of the previous king's best friend. In another world, the mother of Yi Gon's lookalike is introduced she is happy that her husband died, and she even prayed that it should happen before and now that her wish is fulfilled she wants to raise her son on her own and live happily but Yi Rim kills her as soon as she goes to her home.
Jo young becomes the friend of Yi Gon and meanwhile, the body of Yi Rim gets found and prince Lee Jong-in performs the autopsy and tells court lady that he should cover it up as a shooting incident instead of a suicide. However, that body is not Yi Rim's but his lookalike's. Yi Gon grows up, and we get introduced to Prime Minister Go Seo Ryung. The head court lady hides talesman to get the king to get married, but he finds all of them and removes them.
He meets prime minister later and after that; he tells the story of Alice in the wonderland to children. The children don't like the story and a little girl asks him whether he has a girlfriend or not he knows that head court lady puts her up to this and says he doesn't have a girlfriend. Then she asks him to follow the white rabbit too. Then we cut to the scene when Yi Gun is in a boat race and a group of men chasing a girl in a rabbit hoodie.
Meanwhile, two girls are introduced, one girl takes pictures of Yi Gon's bodyguard and the other girl creepily says that men should never wear full clothes but the other girl says that she likes men who are covered up. The thugs shoot in the sky with a gun to stop the person in rabbit costume. The king's guard gets alarmed and captures the two thugs. The king decides to chase the girl in rabbit and the girl who asks him to chase the rabbit tells her mom that he is really chasing the rabbit. The king eventually loses the sight of her.
After that we get to see bromance scene and we learn that Yi Gon is longing to see his saviour then we get introduced to the detectives we saw in the beginning and them to capture the criminals crashes their car to force them to get out. They discover a body in the trunk. Meanwhile, Yi Reum Reunites with his loyal servant. Yi Gon finds the rabbit once again and decides to chase her and then gets teleported to another world with his horse. She finds him in front of Yi Sun Shin's statue and asks him to get down since he is violating the law. He gets down and hugs her. Thus the episode ends.
