Ozuma Tezuka: The Father of Manga

The manga we know today is here thanks to a man named Osamu Tezuka. When Mr Tezuka studying medicine in 1945, he saw the poster of a Japanese cartoon called Momotarou which is heavily inspired by Disney. He was very inspired by it and made him devote his entire life to drawing comics. He wanted to make people laugh and cry reading his comics just like how they felt watching a movie.  Osamu's inspiration to create a new genre called manga came from his childhood. His father was a huge fan of western comic books, he ordered them from America and even tried to draw them by himself. Osamu's mother read him those comics and thanks to them he got interested in them and also in theatre and movies which made him to write comics as well as create animated movies

Many people considered Mr Tezuka not only as the father of manga but also a god of comic books. Some even believed Mr Tezuka deserved getting Noble Prize for literature. It is clearly an over-exaggeration but the fact that the modern manga industry wouldn't exist without him is an absolute truth. He took inspiration from Disney animation and combined Japanese art and added his own ideas and created a completely new genre known as the manga. The manga he created had more depth than your average comic, it was like a novel in the disguise of a comic.

Mr Ozuma Tezuka published his first work in 1947 and it became a nationwide sensation selling 400000 copies. This inspired many other individuals to create manga. They copied his art style and added their own story and soon the manga became extremely popular all over the country.  Mr Tezuka published several works and they were all well received. But most consider Astro boy and Buddha as his greatest works. He created Astro Boy to show endless possibilities and dangers for society and with buddha, he taught children about selflessness, peace, and perseverance and many other essential values that shaped Asian societies like Japan, China and India.

Since he lived in an era of war, he hated conflict and strongly criticized humanity's nature of waging wars. You can see that many of his works are strongly anti-conflict. He made 60 animated movies and wrote and drew more than 100000 pages of manga. He laid a foundation for modern manga and worked hard to spread Japanese culture through those drawings. He passed away at the age of 60 leaving behind a legacy that gave birth to new talents like Akira Toriyama and many others.
